ABSTRACT

The study investigates factors influencing Adult learners in non-formal education programme in Egor local Government Area of Edo State, with a focus on identifying ways to improve access and participation. Through a review of the existing literature and qualitative research methods, this study examines the personal, social, and structural factors that impact adult learners' experiences.

          A total sample of 100 respondents were drawn through a simple random  sampling  techniques was used for the study.. The descriptive survey design method was adopted for the study. The data was collected using a questionnaire titled" Factor influencing Adult learners in non-formal education programme".  Simple percentage method of data analysis used in analysing the data gotten from the respondents. After experts’ validation of the instrument, it was pilot-tested for reliability. The instrument’s reliability was determined using the internal consistency reliability whereby the instrument was administered to 30 participants who were not part of the final study.

Finding shows  that  factors such as cost, time constraints, and limited resources are key barriers, while t overcoming these barriers. By understanding the specific challenges faced by adult learners, this study aims to provide recommendations for improving access and participation in non-formal education. The project recommended providing access to flexible scheduling, childcare, and transportation resources. The project also recommended increasing social support for adult learners, such as through mentorship programs, peer-to-peer support, and community outreach. Additionally, the study highlighted the importance of providing culturally-appropriate and accessible learning environments for adult learners. The study concluded by emphasizing the need for further research and policy changes to address the factors influencing adult learners in non-formal education programme.
