Abstract

The rapid rise of social media platforms has revolutionized various aspects of modern society, including fashion trends. This study delves into the impact of social media on the fashion preferences of students at the University of Benin (UNIBEN). With an ever-expanding online presence, the study aims to determine the impact of social media on current fashion trends among Uniben students, to verify students' perceptions of how social media affect fashion trends among them, and to determine the role of social media on fashion trends among students. The study made use of a survey research method with a structured questionnaires distributed to several UNIBEN students. The data collected through the questionnaire were analyzed using statistical tools to identify patterns and trends relating to social media usage, fashion preferences, and the correlation between the two. The findings of the study shed light on the dominant social media platforms influencing fashion choices among UNIBEN students and the factors that contribute to the adoption of specific trends. It also explores the role of fashion influencers and brand endorsements on social media in shaping the choices of the student population. Consequently, the researcher concluded that UNIBEN students actively utilize social media platforms to track and embrace fashion trends, significantly impacting their daily routines and decision-making processes. The study provides compelling evidence that social media serves as a primary source of inspiration and guidance for students in their fashion choices, underscoring its profound influence on their lifestyles.
