The study was made to investigate the factors affecting the effective use of E-learning in Benin metropolis. Three research questions were created to guide the study. The population of the study comprised of thirty nine thousand two hundred and forty three undergraduate students (39,243) of the University of Benin while the sample for the study is purposively comprised of the 400 level computer science student from the faculties of Physical science and Education which are two hundred and sixty students (260). Said questionnaire was validated by the researcher’s supervisor as well as two other experts from the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology while the cronbach’s alpha reliability method was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument with a co-efficient index of .705, that data was then analyzed with mean and standard deviation.
Results of the data show that current level of integration of E-learning in the University of Benin was not high , they were little or no functioning E-learning facilities, these facilities weren’t accessible by students , most student didn’t use the facilities due to misinformation, lecturers weren’t using E-learning as a medium to deliver course content, there are a lot factors affecting the effective use of E-learning in Nigeria institutions such as lack of funding,no stable internet provider to support E-learning, lack know how in handling E-learning facilities from both students and lecturers.
Some recommendations were made for this study which are that there should be training of staff in educational technology in relation to E-learning, E-learning should be incorporated into the teaching and learning method rather than only face to face teaching, uninterrupted power supply from the government and funding for E-learning facilities and their amenities should not be limited to the government but be extended to stakeholders.
