ABSTRACT
The study examined the factors affecting student's academic performance in Chemistry in senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. Also of interest in this work was to ascertain the effects of the teacher's academic qualifications and instructional strategies on the performance of Chemistry students, to examine how students' academic performance in Chemistry is affected by their school environment, to ascertain how parent's socio economic status affects senior secondary school student's performance in chemistry, to learn about the steps taken to improve and raise Chemistry performance among senior secondary school students. Four(4) research questions were raised and were directly answered. The study was a descriptive survey research design which established the characteristics of the variables of the study. The sample of the study comprised of one hundred and eighty six (186) senior secondary school students selected across all the number of students randomly selected across all 12 public senior secondary school in Egor Local Government Area Of Edo State. The researcher designed a questionnaire which was used to gather data on the factors affecting students academic performance in chemistry in Egor Local Government Area Of Edo State. The data collected with the questionnaire were analyzed using percentage, mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed among others that the school should prioritize hiring qualified teachers in Chemistry to ensure student receive high-quality instruction. positive classroom environment should be focus on by ensuring a well-organized setup, adequate resources and suitable lighting and temperature condition, to encourage students to be actively involved in their children's education and modern laboratory equipment and safety measures should be made to enhance student's practical learning experiences.
