ABSTRACT
The study investigated the factors affecting senior secondary school students’ interest in literature in Benin city. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, four research questions were raised to guide the study. The sample for the study consists of 0ne hundred (100) students from schools in Benin city. The survey research design was used and data was collected with the aid of questionnaires. The validity of the instrument was done using experts judgment approach. The data collected was analyzed using frequency count and simple percentages. Findings from the study revealed that factors affecting senior secondary school students’ interest in literature in Benin city is underemphasized and has been paid little attention to, therefore causing a degradation to the importance of literature. The study recommends among others that literature teachers should undergo proper and detailed training and also be equipped with the appropriate and adequate resources.
