Abstract

Welding is a critical process in various industries, ranging from manufacturing to construction, and its quality greatly depends on the choice of shielding gas composition and welding position. This project aims to investigate the influence of different shielding gas compositions on the weld quality and performance in various welding positions, with a focus on improving weld strength, durability, and efficiency. The choice of shielding gas is pivotal in welding processes, as it affects the weld pool stability, arc characteristics, and the formation of weld defects like porosity, spatter, and incomplete fusion. Furthermore, welding can be performed in various positions, such as flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead, each presenting unique challenges and requirements. By understanding the interplay between shielding gas composition and welding position, this project seeks to optimize welding processes to meet industryspecific needs. The research methodology includes experimental welding trials using different shielding gas mixtures, such as argon, helium, carbon dioxide, and various combinations thereof. These trials will be conducted using multiple welding positions, and the resulting welds will be analyzed for quality, strength, and microstructure.
