ABSTRACT
The fabricated plantain chips slicing machine was able to completely eliminate the tedious and laborious process involved in slicing plantain into chips. Compared to the indigenous method, we were able to minimize the time taken in slicing plantain into chips and produce plantain chips with consistent shape and size. Also, the issue where the plantain was fed directly into the cutter with the hand was eliminated by introducing a feeder chute to the machine.
The performance test results of the plantain slicing machine have demonstrated its capability to efficiently slice plantains of various sizes within a relatively short time frame. The capacity averaged around 156 kg/hr, showcasing the machine's ability to process plantains at a commendable rate. Moreover, the average slicing efficiency of 92.7% indicates that the machine is not only productive but also effective in minimizing plantain wastage during the slicing process.
