ABSTRACT
The exponential growth in the usage of electronic devices has led to a surge in the disposal of used alkaline batteries. These batteries contain heavy metals that pose environmental risks if not handled properly, releasing toxic materials and into the environment and ecosystems. For this study, the extraction of valuable metals such as zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn) from discarded alkaline batteries, utilizing methods that are both sustainable and environmentally friendly has been carried out. This research utilized the standard citric acid methodology and recovery of up to 95.56% Zn and 71.84% Mn was achieved. From the results obtained, Tiger brand battery has the highest recovery percentage.
