ABSTRACT

The work aims at examining the production of biodiesel from waste palm oil using an heterogeneous catalyst prepared from extracting K2O from plantain peduncle impregnated with tin(II)chloride The preparation and uses of heterogeneous catalyst for the production of biodiesel has become very important. The design of experiment of the transesterification process was done using the Box-behnken design (BBD) while response surface methodology RSM, was used to model and optimize the process. The performance of the optimization tool RSM, was demonstrated in the high R2 -value, predicted R2 -value, and adjusted R2 -value at 0.9047, 0.4902, 0.8095. Optimal conditions that gave the maximum biodiesel yield at 72.2634% as given by the experiment are given as 45.2769℃ for temperature, 1.21884g for catalyst loading, 84.04mins for reaction time and 7.60515 for methanol:oil.
