ABSTRACT

The study on Extent of Integration of Practical into Teaching Chemistry was designed to explore the frequency of practical lessons in chemistry classes, degree to which students participate in practical lessons and challenges faced in integrating these practical lessons among senior secondary school students Egor local government area of Benin city, Edo state Nigeria. Four research questions were raised to guide the investigation. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The simple random technique was used to select one hundred and fifty senior secondary school students consisting of 79 females and 71 males from public senior secondary schools offering chemistry in Egor local government area. A 28 item Extent of Integration of Practical in Teaching Chemistry Student Questionnaire on a five-point scale was used for the study. The research instrument has a reliability coefficient of 0.69 using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient reliability method. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics focusing on mean and standard deviation. The study found a relatively low frequency in practical lessons integration in senior secondary school and students actively participated in practical lessons.
