EXPLORING THE USE OF PLAY WAY METHOD IN PROMOTING LEARNING AMONG PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN IN OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

 This study is on exploring the use of play way method in promoting learning among pre school. To achieve this four research questions were raised: Is play way method effective in promoting learning among pre school? , Does play way method enhance creativity in classroom? , what is the role of play in early childhood education? , to what extent do teacher use play method in pedagogy? The population sample comprises of all pre-primary schools in oredo local government, a descriptive survey method was used to carry out findings and based on this findings it was revealed that play way way method has a very high effect in promoting learning among pre school children ,playway method was used to an high extent by teachers,  play way method has an important role in early childhood education.  A sample size of hundred (100) respondents was used for this study. Public and private primary schools in Oredo local government area which is about 200.10% were drawn representing twenty (20) private and public schools which were all written and put into a bag in which twenty(20) schools were randomly drawn. Also, five(5) subjects teachers were selected from each school using a purposive sampling techniques. After passing the reliability assessment using Pearson Product Moment Correction Coefficient (PPMCC) the final result of the Study was n=0.864. To achieve internal consistency, the test items were divided into two (2) equal halves of and even categories, each categories having an independent score that was used in the analyse. 

 

The instrument for data collection of this study is a questionnaire which has a structured titled "exploring the use of play way method in promoting learning among pre-school children in Oredo local government area of Edo state", which was designed by the researcher. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items using the form of Likert scale of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree format. Part A sought to find out the demographic details of the respondents, while part B centered on the request for the respondents to complete the questionnaire meant to answer the research questions posed for the study. Recommendations were also made that the Ministry of Education should ensure that policy  guidelines are provided to all pre-school with regards to pre-school education, training teachers, curriculum and support materials, registration, supervision and inspection of Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre, Government should ensure that the curriculum of teacher's education is oriented towards play way method of teaching, and that teachers should ensure to be involve in play as well as making sure every child is carried along .
