ABSTRACT
The purpose of this project is to experiment a fusion of two dances to creatively achieve a creation of a new dance style. In achieving this fusion, the Makossa dance from Cameroon and Egedege dance from the Igbo culture of Nigeria were employed. The dance expressed the beauty and uniqueness in creativity, which is one of the factors that captivates the audience and keeps the art of dance alive. The work researched into the origin and history of The Makossa and Egedege dance, the cultural background of the Unubi people where Egedege dance originated from and that of the Duala people where the Makossa dance originated from. It also researched into the Culture of the Duala people in the Makossa dance and the Culture of the Unubi people in Egedege dance, the performance of the dance, and the movement characteristics. The methodologies used in sourcing for information were, secondary research methods, which involved library research, and consultation of books, journals, articles and so on, which were related to the topic of study, internet source and Artistic/Experimental research method, which involved creating a dance script, auditioning, rehearsing with the dancers and staging a dance production. The research concludes that dance is a creative form of art that captivates and showcases its Artistic beauty through body movements, and for this creativity to be achieved, it requires something different from the normal trend people are used to, which can be creatively established to bring out the beauty in dance.
