ABSTRACT
This study aimed at examining exercise: its benefits and influence on sports performance of university of Benin students. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The design adopted for this study is the survey research design. The sample consisted of 186 respondents randomly selected from the department of human kinetics and sport science. Questionnaires were used for the collection of data from 186 (one hundred and eighty six) respondents which were basically students. The research instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The test re-test method was adopted in testing the reliability of the instrument after which the research instruments were administered by the researcher herself. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation.
Findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between lack of availability of standard of sports facility and equipment and students’ participation in exercises. It was also revealed that there is a significant relationship between academic stress and the student’s participation in exercises.
Based on the findings, it was recommended that standard sport facilities and equipments should be made available in schools as this will encourage students in participating in exercise.
