ABSTRACT

It is quite evident, that the dilemma the subject of Euthanasia presents is still persistent in today's contemporary society. Euthanasia has in many instances proved invaluable to some persons and even families at large. However, it has also in some cases proven to be ill-fated and detrimental. Currently, the position of Euthanasia can be said to be randomly split between various Nations. It is very noticeable though that the notion of Euthanasia is generally rejected among the African nations and vice versa for the European nations. This is understandable in the sense that Africans value the sanctity of life till the point of death and even after that. The idea of taking a life that you did not create, simply doesn't sit right with the people's belief. However, coming from the view that life is most sacred, one begins to wonder, to what extent can life be considered valuable?. Naturally, humans live with a certain sense of purpose, direction and aim in Life including survival. Once such things cannot be achieved anymore as a result of a terminal illness, can such a life be considered valuable even to the affected person? Is it fair to prolong the death of a person certain to die? According to Dr Felix Airoboman "until we learn more about the intricacies of life and death...the debate for and against Euthanasia will remain unabated"¹ . This was clearly stating that we do not know enough about life and death to make conclusions about it in terms of Euthanasia.
