ABSTRACT
Sexual violence is a major public health and social problem in Tanzania and worldwide. It is underreported and more than half of such menace are committed by someone known to the survivor. Although both men and women can be sexually assaulted, women and children are at greater risk. This research examines the critical look at various opinions of authors on the subject matter. The also research analyzes the forms of sexual violence, rape myths being found in certain areas in Tanzania as one of the causes of sexual violence and also the immediate care and treatment given to victims of sexual violence which includes PEP, EC etc being referred to a post rape care. The research reveals that Demographic health surveys utilizing victims are used to examine the incidence and prevalence of sexual violence in Tanzania. Furthermore, it discusses the many effects of sexual violence which may result in long-term mental and physical health problems. This study also employed a descriptive and explanatory method to bring to fore the multi-faceted challenges affecting the effective prosecution of sexual violence in Tanzania as well as the legal framework. The thrust of this work is to proffer lasting solution that will have a far reaching effect on challenges faced by Tanzania during prosecution. Thus this research work recommends that the Tanzanian government should adopt adequate measures in other to effectively prosecute cases on sexual violence which includes enforcement of laws, provision of financial resources, enlightening the police force, health sectors as well as the public. This research concludes that the issue of sexual violence is a threat to the fundamental human rights of citizens and must be treated with utmost priority.
