ABSTRACT
There is the need for the protection of the environment against climate change. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humans. It is principally a major problem caused by the increase of human activities. Due to man’s dependence on its environment, it is vital that his environment is protected against climate changes which may be harmful to him. This research work therefore examines the challenges of combating climate change in Nigeria. It discusses briefly the concept of climate change, its causes and impact as well as the existing challenges which Nigeria has faced towards combating the effects of climate change on its environment. It also discusses the efforts Nigeria has adopted in curbing these effects of climate change through institutional and legal frameworks and sustainable development goals. The research finds that the activities of man increases the concentration of green house gases in the atmosphere which is the major cause of climate change and based on the findings, the research recommends that Nigeria should domesticate ratified international treaties and conventions, institutionalise legislative framework to promote climate protection and form regulatory bodies to curtail the effects of climate change.
