ABSTRACT
This study examined the activities of human smugglers in Benin City, Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four (4) research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of one hundred (100) respondents selected from four communities in Benin City, Edo State namely; Oluku, Uselu, Iguosa and Idunwina community. The data collected was analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage. The study revealed that there is high prevalent rate of human smuggling in Benin City. It was concluded that Aeconomic empowerment, equitable access to education, international cooperation, enhanced border security and strengthening legal framework constituted some of the measures which could be taken to address the issue of human smuggling in Benin City, Edo State. The study recommends among others that both the federal and state government should prioritize economic empowerment initiatives aimed at vulnerable communities prone to human smuggling. Providing job training, microfinance loans, and small business support can offer viable alternatives to engaging in illegal activities.
