ABSTRACT

This study covers Examination Malpractice and Academic Performance of students in Senior Secondary School Students in Ovia-North East Local Government Area Of Edo State. To guide the study six research questions were raised. The research design used for this study was the descriptive survey research design. The A total of 100 respondents were sampled for the study. The instrument used in this study was the questionnaire, data was analysed using simple percentages, frequency, simple percentage, mode and Pearson product moment correlation statistics. The findings of this study showed that that poor study habit, unavailability of teaching materials and lack of preparation is a major cause of examination malpractice and that parental guidance is not necessarily a factor that contributes to examination malpractice. It was also concluded that there is a significant relationship between examination malpractice and academic performance but no significant relationship between attitude of invigilators and examination malpractice in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local government area of Edo State.  Based on the above findings, the following recommendations were drawn, Students should develop good study habit and not depend on examination malpractice . Teaching materials should be provided by authorities to avoid examination malpractice. Parents should endeavor to pay more attention to their wards to prevent them from engaging in examination malpractice and that. Students should endeavor to prepare well for examination so they won’t be pressured to engage in examination malpractice.
