 ABSTRACT

The concept of masculinity, Manhood and gender socialization across different cultures in Nigeria bear similarities to each other.

The characteristics that are often associated with men in Nigerian culture include strength, bravery, independence, leadership, and assertiveness; as a result, they shouldn't act irrationally when confronted with difficult situations.

With the rise of feminism and feminist assertions, along with efforts to improve our understanding of African history and address structural gender inequality, hegemonics have become a source of ridicule. As a result, while womanhood and motherhood have received a lot of attention, manhood has received hardly any.

Beauty, elegance and sexual appeal is usually associated with feminity, hence making the female figure more represented, portrayed and advertised.

This paper is aimed at exploring of the manly body and examining the social construct of masculinity, patriarchy and hegemonics in Nigeria.
