EVALUATION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SAFETY LABORATORY PRACTICES AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN IKPOBA OKHA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study dealt on the evaluation of the implementation of safety practices in Biology laboratory among senior secondary school students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, five research questions were raised and examined. Data was collected from (250) SS2 science students from five (5) selected Public Senior Secondary Schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean score and standard deviation. Criterions mean score of 2.50 was used as selection criterion.

The findings from the study include that the design of the Biology laboratory is appropriate to ensure safety among senior secondary school students in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. It was concluded that the available safety equipment in the Biology laboratory in public senior secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State include sink and tap for washing hands, first aid kit, Hand gloves and goggles, and fire extinguisher. It was therefore recommended among others that the school should educate students on the location and use of all safety and emergency equipment prior to laboratory activity.
