ABSTRACT
This study examined the effects of wastewater management practices among the residents of Ekosodin in Ovia North East local Government. Four (4) research questions were raised during the study.
The descriptive survey research design was used to generate, collect and analyze the data and a sample size of one hundred (100) residents were selected from the total population that reside in Ekosodin. The population of the study comprised all the residents of Ekosodin in Ovia North, and the simple random sampling technique was adopted for this research
A structured questionnaire was constructed and divided into two sections. Section A focused on the demographic data of the respondents, while Section B focused on statement items that were used to elicit information from the respondents based on the research questions. The instrument was validated by the researcher’s project supervisor and two other experts from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education. The reliability was established using test-retest method of estimating reliability. The questionnaire was administered to the respondents by the researcher and three well instructed assistants, after the collection and collation of the instrument, the data obtained was analyzed and it was revealed that a relatively large number of the respondents were aware of the concept of wastewater and it can therefore be deduced that they are also knowledgeable about the possible adverse effects of wastewater mismanagement and also, the little above average data gotten as a result of seeking to reinforce the residents of Ekosodin shows that not a large number of the population are aware of the health benefits of the proper management of their wastewater and that there is a need to educate the residents of Ekosodin.
It is recommended that efforts to eradicate wastewater mismanagement should not be left for government and community leaders alone, but rather, should be the responsibility of every member of the community.
