ABSTRACTViolation of traffic light has been a major challenge in traffic management and its negative impacts can’t be over emphasized. Studies have been carried out in the past to ascertain the effect of traffic light violation and factors that contribute to it. Accidents, traffic congestion, reduced level of service of roads, to mention a few, had been the outcome of violation of traffic. Little has been done with respect to how certain factors as; type of vehicle, gender of drivers, age etc affect traffic light violation. To this end came the need of this study. This study evaluates traffic violation in signalized intersection with respect to type of vehicle, age and gender. The second east circular junction was used as a case study. Data was obtained via manual traffic count and analyzed using SPSS and Microsoft excel packages.A regression model was run for the dependent variable and independent variables. The dependent variable was general violation and the independent variables were categorized into three; type of vehicle, Gender and age. Under type of vehicle we had Private vehicles, commercial vehicles and Trucks. Under Age we had below 30 years, between 30 years to 50 years and above 50 years categories. The analysis on SPSS and Microsoft excel gave the exact same result. From the analysis it was discovered that a strong linear relationship exist between traffic violation and type of vehicle, age and gender respectively. The correlation coefficient of traffic violation and type of vehicle, Gender and Age were 0.939, 0.666 and 0.959 respectively. Their regression models were also obtained.
