ABSTRACT.
Crude oil production in the Niger Delta, renowned for its vast hydrocarbon resources, presents unique challenges linked to the presence of waxy and asphaltene-rich crude oils. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of crude oils from Field X and Field Y, focusing on their wax content, wax appearance temperature (WAT), pour point, and the compositional breakdown through SARA (Saturate, Aromatic, Resin, and Asphaltene) analysis. Our investigation revealed distinct differences between the two fields. Field Y exhibited significantly higher wax content, pour point, and WAT compared to Field X, signifying its susceptibility to wax-related challenges. Furthermore, SARA analysis delineated variations in the composition of saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes, with Field Y showing markedly higher asphaltene content. These findings underscore the importance of tailored strategies for the efficient production and transportation of crude oil from these fields. Recommendations include the implementation of wax and asphaltene mitigation measures, proactive monitoring, optimization of production practices, and ongoing research to address these unique crude oil characteristics effectively. By addressing the specific challenges associated with waxy and asphaltene-rich crude oils, this study contributes to the sustainable and trouble-free extraction of vital energy resources in the Niger Delta, ensuring the region's continued role in global energy production.
