ABSTRACT
Five samples of clay from Obadolovbeyi was investigated for their mineralogical, chemical and industrial properties. This investigation was to evaluate their economic importance. The mineralogy of clay samples from Obadolovbyeyi was determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD).The chemical composition of the clay samples was determined using X-ray fluorescence (XRF).The results showed kaolinite as the most dominant clay mineral while quartz was the most abundant mineral of all sample and accessory minerals like garnet, vermiculite, illite, orthoclase and clinchlore. The chemical analysis results showed that all five samples contains the following oxides with their mean wt% SiO2(53.13%), Al2O3 (34.28,%), Fe2O3 (4.33%), TiO2 (5.08%), CaO(0.41%), P2O5 (0.03%), K2O(5.06%), MnO(0.13%), MgO(0.00%) and CaO(0.41%). Evaluation of the clay deposit after comparing it with industrial specifications of clay shows that it is not suitable for ceramics, refractory bricks, pharmaceuticals, as a paper coating agent or as a paper filling agent except it has undergone beneficiation.
