ABSTRACT
This research delves into the assessment and enhancement of the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model for student hostel accommodation within Nigerian  universities. Using the University of  Benin as a case study, the study meticulously explores various facets of BOT hostels in comparison to traditional hostel systems. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, this comprehensive investigation examines the physical design, room sizes, amenities, and common spaces of BOT hostels. It investigates infrastructure quality, management, and services. The research identifies challenges encountered during the adoption and implementation of the BOT model and provides insights into strategies for improvement.
Feedback from multiple stakeholders, including students, university administrators, and private investors, is analyzed to assess their satisfaction with BOT hostels. Findings reveal not only their level of satisfaction but also the financial returns and perceived value for money in BOT hostels.
The study examines the role of the university administration in supporting BOT hostels and offers recommendations for enhancing this model’s adoption and effectiveness. With a high response rate from a diverse sample, this research uncovers nuanced perspectives on  student accommodation. The findings have far-reaching implications for universities and private investors considering BOT hostels, shedding light on areas for improvement and strategies for a more effective implementation. Ultimately, this study contributes valuable insights and recommendations to the field of student accommodation in Nigerian tertiary institutions, aiming to create more conducive and efficient living spaces for students.
