ABSTRACT

There are significant challenges faced by the poultry industry in its pursuit of sustainable practices, and Nigeria faces similar concerns, particularly regarding antibiotic use and the evolving landscape of consumer demands for healthier poultry products. In response, this project work explores the complex relationship between phytogenic additives and broiler hematology, shedding light on their potential to improve broiler health and performance. Phytogenic additives, derived from natural plant sources, stand as promising alternatives in the quest for sustainable poultry production. This study delves into the dynamic sphere of phytogenic feed additives, providing insights into their diverse families and unveiling the bioactive components that brings about their efficacy in enhancing broiler performance. With major focus on hematological parameters, the study seeks to unravel the complex association between blood parameters, immunity, growth, and stress response. By thoroughly reviewing existing literature, examines the capacity of phytogenic additives to induce positive changes in broiler hematology. It endeavours to unravel the evidence supporting claims of improved oxygen-carrying capacity, heightened immunity, and diminished stress responses through alterations in key blood parameters. By doing so, this study aspires to contribute valuable insights to the discourse on sustainable and health-conscious poultry production practices.
