ABSTRACT Obesity can be defined as a disease process characterized by excessive body fat accumulation with multiple organ-specific consequences. The aim of this was to determine the concentration of blood glucose level amongst obese female adults in the University of Benin. Sixty (60) apparently healthy female subjects were recruited for this study between the age range of 18 and 25 years. Thirty normal weight subjects as control and Thirty Obese females for the experimental group. Obesity for this study was recognized as BMI greater or equal 30kgm/m2. With a sterilized lancet a drop of blood was dropped on a test strip and placed on a glucometer to measure fasting blood sugar using a glucose estimation test principle method. The results showed a high significant fasting blood sugar levels in obese females compared to non-obese. In conclusion an increased significant level of blood glucose can become a risk factor for some disease like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension etc. Thus, obesity is positively correlated with blood glucose levels.
