ABSTRACT
This essay examines the management of e-waste in Nigeria. The problem of reckless disposal of wastes, especially hazardous wastes such as e-waste could be traced to the ignorance of the effect such actions poses to the environment.
The international communities have over the years contributed to the protection of the environment against the effects of hazardous substances by providing international instruments, to regulate the activities of States as it regards the production, movement and disposal of such substances. States on the other hand, have also come up with national statutes to regulate the activities of people within the states in this regard.
This essay compares the management of e-waste in Nigeria with the waste management system in South Africa and UK, and draws insights from the practices in these jurisdictions. The essay finds that the Nigerian system does not have substantial recycling centres with adequate recycling facilities for the management of e-waste, and recommends that the government provides these at least in each region in the country.
