ABSTRACT

As a developing nation, poverty continues to be Nigeria's biggest obstacle. This study's primary goal is to investigate how social workers evaluate the efficacy of programs aimed at reducing poverty among low-income families in the Ward 5 Community. The purpose of this study is to examine, from the standpoint of a social worker, how best to evaluate the degree of efficacy of programs designed to reduce poverty among low-income families in the Ward 5 Community. Studies conducted over the years have demonstrated that almost no social or poverty alleviation program started by the Nigerian government has succeeded in achieving any of its stated goals. This result is consistent with assessments that have been carried out over the years to evaluate these programs. If Nigeria is to make any headway toward meeting its citizens' needs for social development, this worrying situation must be improved. the inadequate handling mechanism considerably. The engagement of licensed social workers as partners in the implementation of these initiatives is one suggested remedy. Because social workers are trained to assist people in meeting their mission needs and provide support, information, values, and skills, their role in evaluating the efficacy of these social and poverty alleviation programs is deemed appropriate. The application of related theories to comprehend poverty and the traceability of social welfare interventions is the main focus of the research for this reason.

Second, the study focuses on how the low-income families in the Oredo Ward 5 were affected by previous strategies and programs. Three partial questions emerged in an effort to determine obstacles and assess how how policies impact these alleviation programs:

  1. What social development requirements do low-income families who are at-risk of poverty in Oredo Ward 5 Community have?
  2. What needs are these programs trying to meet?
  3. What are the shortcomings in terms of anti-alleviation program implementation that prevent ward 5's low-income families from having their needs met?

Semi-structured interviews with administrators, policymakers, socialworkers, and beneficiaries were conducted as part of the qualitative research methods. Policy documents were utilized to gather information about the programs' implementation, goals, and anticipated outcomes, as well as the benefits they provided to the participants.

The study's conclusions address the social development needs of low-income families in the Oredo Ward 5 Community, and they offer some recommendations for future research and policy implications.
