ABSTRACT
This ethnolinguistic study delves into the rich cultural heritage of the Ilaje people, examining the proverbs of the Ilaje dialect of the Yoruba language to uncover the values, beliefs, and worldview of this vibrant community. Through a nuanced analysis of the linguistic and cultural features of Ilaje proverbs, this research reveals the intricate web of meaning that underpins the dialect, shedding light on the community's social norms, moral principles, and traditional knowledge. By exploring the cultural significance of Ilaje proverbs, this project contributes to the preservation and promotion of linguistic diversity, enriching our understanding of the Yoruba language family and its cultural traditions, and highlighting the importance of proverbs as a repository of cultural heritage and wisdom. By applying the S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G model, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of the ethnolinguistic significance of Ilaje proverbs, demonstrating the importance of considering the cultural and social context in which language is used.
