ABSTRACT
Previous studies on Edo proverbs have concentrated on just listing the proverbs and their meaning (Ekhaguosa 2008 and Bishweesh 2018). This approach has been the typical one for Edo Proverbs. However, no study thus far has focused on the study of aesthetics and ethics represented in Edo Proverbs. Therefore, the objective of this study is to study the aesthetics and ethics of Edo Proverbs.
The objective of this study is to study the structure of Edo Proverbs, To These objectives include (i) study the representation of beauty and morality in Edo Proverbs, (ii) to study the relationship between Edo Proverb structure and the concept of beauty and morality, (iii) to give the typology of beauty and morality in Edo Proverbs.

In Edo Proverbs are used in almost everyday conversations between people. The people in traditional Edo society always try to do things that would not offend people or the gods. They are always conscious of their behavior and try to do things that are considered morally right according to culture. They believe you should show happiness or sympathy to your neighbors when good or bad things happen to them. They raise their children to behave like them or even more proper. The Proverbs also expresses the beauty of love, wealth, power of tongue, respect, hope, despair, the usefulness and the serenity of water and the power of supremacy in Benin kingdom.
Areas of Edo Proverbs that needs to be studied is the sociolinguistics investigation of Edo Proverbs, a comparative study of Edo Proverbs and Yoruba Proverbs. Selected Proverbs used to resolve conflicts in Edo should also be carried out. These areas I did not discuss in my research work.
