ABSTRACT
In the contemporary landscape, computers have become pivotal instruments driving technological growth, leading to a myriad of ethical issues that require thorough examination. This project aims to dissect and comprehend the ethical landscape surrounding computers as instruments of technological growth. Traditional methods of addressing these ethical concerns have proven inadequate, necessitating a more in-depth exploration of ethical frameworks and stakeholder perspectives. This study focuses on the University of Benin, Department of Computer Science, and aims to determine the relevance of ethics in computer applications and identify the ethical issues associated with the use of computers as instruments of technological growth. It evaluates the current state of ethical considerations in the development, deployment, and use of computer technologies. Additionally, the study explores the diverse perspectives of stakeholders, including developers, users, policymakers, and the public, on these ethical issues. By incorporating the perspectives of various stakeholders and proposing actionable recommendations, this research aims to contribute to responsible technological advancement and foster a culture of ethical awareness within the realm of computer technology. The findings and proposed solutions will serve as a framework for institutions, policymakers, and technology developers to address and mitigate ethical challenges, ensuring that the growth of computer technology aligns with societal values and ethical standards.
