ABSTRACT

This work analyses the environmental laws and regulations put in place for a healthy environmental protection in Nigeria, because of the paramount importance for the continuity of human race. This study therefore addresses the significant role played by corporate bodies in ensuring a well protected environment with a view to curtailing the activities of corporate and business organisations should and have imputed into the environment as well as x-raying the lapses exhibited by them. The aim of this research work is to give an overview of the environmental protection vis a vis the effect of environment not protected by the activities of corporate organization in their production activities and to show the level or extent which they must play in safety of the environment. The objective of this study is to examine the applicable legislations on environmental protection which arouse the consciousness of a well protected and healthy environment by production companies and the need for prosecution of those corporate bodies involved in polluting the environment by their production activities and then profer recommendations that affords greater environmental protection by applying the applicable laws and regulations. The findings of this study show that legislation put in place in protecting the Nigerian environment is insufficient. The study further finds that the populace can not be exempted from the omission to have maintain an environment free from pollution. Thus even where it is so obvious that corporate bodies are violating the environment, the local dwellers are identified not to be keen on raising alarm, rather are more desirous on seeking their individual gains which ultimately become their loss. The study contribute that corporate organisations must address the protection of the environment by adhering to international best practices in their production activities in other to combat practices which can adversely pollute the environment and to adhere to legislations in place for the safety of the Nigerian environment.
