ABSTRACT
The study investigates problems militating against effective teaching and learning of accounting in secondary school. Four research questions were formulated for the study. The study employed mixed method of quantitative and qualitative techniques. Quantitative data from questionnaire survey was analyzed with appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics including frequencies, percentages; means and standard deviation were also used for closed questions. From the analysis of the study, it was revealed that late coming to school by pupils could be as a result in a long distance from home to school, this teachers and school administrators ought to work hard with the view to reducing the problem. The study also revealed that punctuality of a child to school to school could change him to become a better individual who uses his time judiciously in future career. The study recommend that school authorities as well as other stake holders should provide shuttle buses with moderate fare to convey pupils to and from school at various vintage points since majority of the pupils reside off campus, counseling intervention for pupils should be strengthened, the school environment should be a place of interest. The classroom should be conducive for teaching and learning process, furniture, facilities of co-curricular activities, adequate libraries and reading rooms, clean and healthy environment do play an important role in attracting the pupils, appropriate teaching methods should be applied by the teacher.
