ABSTRACT

The study investigated the level of enhancing the teaching and learning of clothing and textile making in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. To carry out this study, two questions was answered and three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study comprises of a total of all respondents selected from public secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. The sample population of the study comprises of 50 teachers in public secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area. The study was descriptive survey design. The study comprised of all teachers in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample was 50 teachers of the total population. The reliability of the questionnaire was ascertained using test-retest method. Thereafter, the Pearson Product Moment Coefficient was used to determine its level of reliability. A correlation coefficient of 0.90 was observed which showed that the instrument was liable. The major findings of this study revealed that there was interest of students in clothing and textile in secondary school, it was also revealed that there was significant difference in teaching and learning clothing and textile based on school location, and there was also significant difference in teaching clothing and textile based on school type. Based on the findings of this study,it was recommended that the government should support school principals in ensuring that adequate safety and security is provided to secure educational facilities in all public schools, teachers should get themselves acquainted with teaching of clothing and textile, Government educational planners and policy makers should ensure the allocation of more money in the budget for clothing and textile making, Government should encourage secondary schools students into clothing and textile making, and Government and educational planners should inculcate clothing and textile into secondary school curriculum.
