ABSTRACT

This study investigated Teachers' perception of the of teaching Grammar in secondary school in Benin Metropolis. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were raised and one hypothesis was tested for the study. The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey research design. The sample size for the study was made up of sixty (60) respondents. The instrument used for the data collection was a structured questionnaire titled "Questionnaire on "English language Teachers' perception on the teaching of grammar in secondary schools.". The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test analysis. The findings of this study include that teaching grammar presents various challenges and difficulties. Teachers often struggle to make grammar instruction engaging and relevant to students, who may find the subject dry or difficult. There is also the challenge of balancing the need for explicit instruction with the desire to promote natural language acquisition. Additionally, teachers must cater to diverse learning styles and proficiency levels, making it necessary to adapt teaching methods to suit individual needs.
