ABSTRACT
Globalization is affecting all facets of life. The English language seems to dominate the world as the only language. Many languages are in serious danger of being lost and if nothing is done to prevent such over five hundred languages in Nigeria and approximately six thousand languages worldwide will be lost.
Some scholars have expressed concern about the dominant status of the English language with a threat towards others in diaspora. This work appraises the attitude of the Nigerian speakers of the Ika languages to their language.
Multilingualism is one of the causes of language endangerment which has been recorded in different parts of Nigeria. Among the endangered languages is the Ika language of the Ika people in Delta state. The data for this study were collected through distribution of sixty questionnaires of which forty-nine where retrieved. They were collected and analyzed and our report presented in the project.
