ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the nature of corruption in Nigeria as well as the activities of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), in the war against corruption. This is achieved through the adoption of historical research method in examining issues and events. The study adopts both qualitative and quantitative approaches in the analysis events. Among the findings of the study is that corruption is an ill-wind that blows no country any good. It is a major hindrance to the sustainable development in any nation. In Nigeria, the monster called corruption has continued to work against any committed effort towards national development. It has remained a clog in the wheel of progress and national growth of the country hence, the high level of underdevelopment which we have continued to contend with as a state, right from independence till present. Corruption is a major challenge which is negatively affecting the image of Nigeria internationally. It is a viral ailment which hinders the political, economic, socio-cultural, human capital, as well as infrastructural development of the country. Corruption has become a national pandemic in Nigeria which has crippled several institutions in the country.
