ABSTRACT
This research focused on Emotional intelligence and Employee job satisfaction among nurses in University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City. The research specifically examined the relationship between self-awareness and management, social awareness and relationship management with job satisfaction among nurses in UBTH. The population of the study was 759 nurses working in this hospital at the time of the study, Using survey research design, a sample size of 262 was drawn and primary data was collected through questionnaire. The results revealed that the emotional intelligence of nurses is significantly related to the level of their job satisfaction. Also emotional intelligence components: self -awareness & management, social awareness and relationship management is significantly related to job satisfaction of nurses in UBTH, and significantly affects their job satisfaction. Recommendations made include that the management of UBTH should invest in training nursing professionals on Emotional Intelligence since it has been found to be relevant for nurses’ job satisfaction, especially in the area of Self- awareness and management, and social awareness. Also the emotional intelligence quotient of nurses should be considered in recruiting nurses.
