ABSTRACT
The emergence of the internet has greatly simplified life for individuals, allowing for the execution of various activities and transactions online without the need to physically interact with sellers, thus giving rise to E-commerce, encompassing the electronic buying and selling of goods and services. This research aims to scrutinize the legal implications of online transactions on consumers, including the legality and enforceability of such transactions, as well as the available remedies for consumers in the event of a breach. For this study, a doctrinal approach is employed, relying on library-based research with information gathered from statutes, cases, online articles, and journals. Throughout this research, it was discovered that there is no comprehensive legislation governing online transactions in Nigeria, as certain aspects remain unaddressed by existing laws in the country. This research seeks to explore and analyze the remedies accessible to consumers in cases where goods do not match their descriptions. In conclusion, the study delves into the legislation governing E-commerce in Nigeria and the consumer protection laws safeguarding online consumers. It is recommended that the national assembly take necessary steps to establish regulations encompassing electronic commerce in its entirety and impose appropriate penalties for breaches in electronic transactions. Given the increasing trend of online shopping in Nigeria, it is crucial to ensure adequate consumer protection to prevent exploitation and ultimately enhance the country's financial economy.
