ABSTRACT

This study investigated electricity supply and the reading culture of undergraduate students in the University of Benin. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 100 students distributed among the university hostels accommodation among hall 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The correlation research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using frequency count and simple percentage. The findings from the study include that there is a significant relationship between lack of electricity supply and poor reading culture among undergraduates’ students in the University of Benin. It was concluded that electricity supply significantly impact on the reading culture among undergraduates’ students in the University of Benin. The study recommended among others that the University of Benin school management should try as much as possible to invest more in solar energy in order to boost the level of electricity supply available to students in the hostels. This will go a long way towards enhancing the reading culture among students.
