ABSTRACT
This research project delves into the life and artistic legacy of El-Dragg Leonard Okwoju, a prominent figure in the Nigerian art scene and a pivotal force within the University of Benin Art School. Through an exploration of El-Dragg's artistic philosophy, influence, and enduring impact on the institutional culture and artistic community of UNIBEN, this study aims to shed light on the transformative power of art education and the role of visionary artists in shaping artistic paradigms. The findings of this research project highlight the significant influence of El-Dragg's artworks on his students' artistic styles and approaches, as evidenced by the majority of respondents acknowledging this influence. Moreover, the study reveals a widespread recognition of ElDragg's work within the artistic community, coupled with a strong consensus among respondents advocating for more initiatives to promote and preserve his legacy. These findings underscore the enduring impact of El-Dragg Leonard Okwoju on the University of Benin Art School, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and preserving the contributions of visionary artists in nurturing artistic talent and fostering cultural heritage.
