ABSTRACT
It is very true that Language is basically a means of communication. Aside from this fact, language is also used to carry and score the value of a given people and Efik and Ibibio are languages used in this study. The language Ibibio is used to carry out Communication instead of Efik. This work is a Study on how sociolinguistics and documentary linguistics are used to differentiate both languages hence, the lexicostatistics and mass comparison method of analysis was adopted for the study and the Primary data was obtained from the Informant through oral Interview from Swadesh wordlist. Secondary data was collected from journals, publications and population Census Statistics. The primary data show that the home is the first place in which language and values are learnt. The secondary data analysis show how the data from the articles are important to the study. A successful analysis shows to the researcher that the study brings out the linguistic important of the language. After thorough research, it is strongly recommended that Efik should be given an importance place in the linguistic world and should be studied in schools by undergraduates.
