ABSTRACT

This study examined the efficiency and effectiveness of human resources in hotel management. Related literature of eminent scholars’ views on the study were reviewed. A descriptive survey was employed to carry out the study. Four research questions were raised to guide this study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The total population of the study comprised one hundred and eighty (180) hotel employees, while the sampled population was a total of one hundred and eighty (180) respondents. The research instrument employed for this study was a self-structured questionnaire that sought information from the respondents from selected hotels. The reliability of the research instrument was ascertained using test-retest technique. The reliability of the retrieved instrument was ascertained using Cronbach Alpha statistics. A reliability coefficient score of 0.81 was obtained. Data was collected from the respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency count and simple percentages. Findings revealed that human resources personnel play a key role in finding, attracting and selecting the right talent to fit in within the hotel to a high extent. The key components involved in training and development program ensure that employees to have the necessary skills to perform their jobs to a high extent. The role of human resource personnel plays in maintaining a positive environment to contribute to the success of a hotel is to a high extent. The systems and incentives most efficient and effective in motivating and improving employee performance in the hotel is to a high extent. Based on the findings revealed above, the following recommendations were made. The Hotel Manager should ensure that they create detailed job descriptions that outline the specific skills, qualifications and experiences required for each position, and they should use a mix of recruitment channel. The Hotel Administrative Manager should conduct a thorough assessment to identify the skills and knowledge gaps among the employees by using methods such as surveys, interviews, performance evaluations and job analysis to gather data on training needs, among others.
