SUMMARY

Uncontrolled logging activities in Ehor forest reserve have reached an alarming rate despite enabling laws prohibiting its activities. The activities of uncontrolled logging have greatly reduced the revenue accruable from the forest as fees payable to the government. The quantity of logs harvested from the forest area are not being replaced as contained in the state forest laws, thus leading to deforestation of the forest area and has brought about negative effects on the environment including loss of wood, loss of plants and animals, climate change, soil erosion and majorly deforestation as opposed to the ecosystem services which the forest provides such as fuelwood, fibre, purifying the air, filter water supply, control erosion and flood, sustain biodiversity and genetic resources, provide recreational opportunity, education , culture and heritage that are critical for well being of humanity in general. All these effects have reduced the purchasing capacity of the community dwellers thus negatively impacting the economy of the local inhabitants.
