ABSTRACT

This research project is titled Effect of the Prevalent Internet Fraud on Academic Achievement of Secondary School Students: a case study of Effurun LGA of Delta State. The major aim of this study is to ascertain the effects of internet fraud on the academic performance of students.

As a consequent of above, the review of related literatures was done to provide a good basis for the conclusion of this work. Similarly, the descriptive survey research design was employed and to ensure the attainment of the general aim, five (5) research questions were raised and the questionnaire which was tested and validated was adopted as the instrument for data collection. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count.

The findings of this study revealed that internet fraud have become prevalent among youths as virtually all boys and ever more worse, girls have been recruited into the scheme. As a consequent of the aforementioned, the it was elicited from the findings of this study that the academic performance of these students have suffered greatly. Also, findings showed that students who are involved in this scheme gets distracted in their studies, doesn't value education any longer because of the affluence that comes with the scheme. However, results shows that government through deliberate efforts can still quell the spread of this malaise. Hence, this study among others recommended that government revitalize the economy and make it make a place where all youths can dream and have their dreams actualized. Also, curriculum planners should endeavour to integrate into the syllabus, the learning of proficient skills on the internet that could earn money for these students.
