ABSTRACT

The investigation on the Effect of information communication and technology on teaching and learning process in Schools (A Case Study of University of Benin, Edo State), Three (3) research questions served as its guidelines, and it used a descriptive survey study design. It sought to find out what is the possible available ICT tools that can be used in teaching and learning process in Schools? What is the relationship between ICT in teaching and learning process in Schools? Will the use of ICT tools in Schools be influence by teachers’ experience? The study employed a sample of Biology students in University of Benin, Edo State and total of (150) respondents which were collected from three different department of University of Benin. The researcher developed questionnaire titled Questionnaire on "effects of ICT on teaching and learning process in Schools" was used as the data collection tool. There are fifteen (15) items on the questionnaire. To analyze the data collected, descriptive statistics such as mean and frequency were used. The study find out that there are qualified computer lecturers in university of Benin, the relationship between ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and the learning process in schools is transformative, the relationship between ICT and the teaching process in schools is crucial for modern education, ICT can transformed the way teachers instruct and interact with students and can also enables teachers to tailor instruction to students' individual needs. The findings of this study also indicating the use of ICT in the teaching and learning process in schools can be influenced by teachers' experience. It was suggested that Nigerian government should give priority attention to ICT integration in education by assisting the state government in funding ICT diffusion in institutions to ensure that every department is networked and Wealthy individuals, non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, and other agencies should collaborate with the state government in staff training on ICT to facilitate ICT full integration in teaching and learning process.
