ABSTRACT
This study was designed to examine the the effects of improper waste disposal among residents in Egor LGA, Edo State. To guide this study, three research questions were raised. The survey research design was used in conducting the study. The main instrument for the study was a self-structured questionnaire.
The population of the study was 100. The validity of the instrument was established by giving it to the supervisor and two other experts in the field of the research study. The reliability of the instrument was established using the test-retest method of reliability which yielded a Coefficient of 0.825. The data obtained from the questionnaires were subjected to analysis using frequency counts and percentages. Results from the study from 100 respondents showed that improper waste disposal had severe effects on the residents of Egor LGA such as traffic, uncomfortable surroundings and their health, also it revealed that the residents had bad practices concerning waste disposal as well and that several factors were responsible for improper waste disposal such as non availability of waste dump and sites and waste collectors not collecting their waste regularly.
At the end of the study, it was recommended that Appropriate dump stands and sites should be provided for residents to dispose off their waste properly, laws and regulations with sanctions should be enacted to control the improper disposal of waste with severe penalties for anyone who defaults and activities which leads to increase disposal of waste should be reduced and mitigation strategies applied where necessary.
