ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the impact of haloxyfop r methyl ester and dichlorvos on Escherichia coli. Soil samples were collected within a specific geographic area (latitude 6o23.843' to 6o23.852' and longitude 5o36.978' to 5o36.967') and subjected to the pour plate method for bacterial culture. Bacterial identification was performed using cultural, morphological, and biochemical tests. PKA values were analyzed to assess phosphate solubility. The results indicated that heterotrophic bacterial counts ranged from log10 4.38 ±0.09cfu/cm2 to log10 4.21 ±0.13cfu/cm2, and coliform counts ranged from log10 3.47 ±0.10cfu/g to log10 2.00±0.00cfu/g. The pesticides, haloxyfop r methyl ester (Super galant) and dichlorvos (sniper), were applied to the soil to observe their effect on Escherichia coli. The total coliform count increased in each sample at Day 1, Day 14, and Day 28. PKA and TSI results were also obtained at these intervals. Zones of inhibition were observed, indicating the presence of plant growth-promoting organisms, except for 5% of organisms with no zone of inhibition. This study highlights the need for further research into the toxicity of pesticides on soil microorganisms, particularly Escherichia coli.
