ABSTRACT

The study focused on the effects of e-library on students’ academic performance in Nigeria tertiary institution; a case study of university of Benin. Three (3) questions were raised for the study. The study adopted survey research design. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for collecting data; it was built around the research question by the researcher and validated by the researcher’s supervisor. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The major findings are: the level of students’ utilization of e-library is high. Library staff computer illiteracy, Network issues, E-library staffs are too hostile and unfriendly and no adequate facilities are among the proble[ms students faced while using e-library. And students’ use of e-library has positive effect on their academic performance. Based on the responses obtained, the researcher proffers the following recommendations: school authorities  should ensure that the students are encouraged to continue using the e-library. School authorities should ensure there is adequate provision of adequate facilities and the library staff should be educated on how to treat and support students quest for knowledge. And the government should make effort to provide funds for policy implementation, provide necessary technology training for librarians and develop information infrastructure to aid students use of e-library given the fact that it affect their academic performance.
